ISOTEX AIR BLOCK WITH INTEGRATED VENTILATED WALL

Revolution of the ventilated wall. Structure, insulation and ventilation in a single laying.

Isotex Air is a wood concrete formwork block for the construction of external walls and façades with integrated ventilation. The classic geometry of the Isotex blocks has been redesigned to integrate the external ventilated wall into the structure: in one quick and easy laying you obtain the extended weakly reinforced wall – obtained by casting the concrete and reinforcement inside the formwork blocks – the ventilated façade and the thermal insulation, thanks to the EPS insert with graphite protected by the block’s wood concrete (‘protective coat’). The special blocks that complete the range eliminate thermal and acoustic bridges.

Why choose Isotex Air for the construction of ventilated walls? The Isotex Air block overcomes the disadvantages of the traditional ventilated wall. All-in-one laying reduces time and costs. The traditional construction of ventilated walls and façades is laborious and complex because it requires the addition of several construction layers laid in succession. It has high costs because it requires skilled labour and the coordination of several professionals. The Isotex Air block saves material and labour costs, reduces construction time and do not require skilled labour.

Isotex Air ventilated wall stratigraphy

The stratigraphy, starting from the internal side, is realised by laying only the formwork block:

  1. Wood cement side, protecting the 45 mm thick reinforced concrete wall (structural core of ISOTEX wall).
  2. Weakly reinforced concrete wall to be built on site and with a grid structure (pillars and stringers): the cavities of the ISOTEX formwork block accommodate the horizontal and vertical reinforcement laid on site. These cavities are completely filled by the concrete casting with a minimum thickness.
  3. Insulation insert made of up to 100 % recycled EPS with graphite. It is obtained by moulding, which allows millimetric precision of the insert and perfect thermal insulation continuity. Thicknesses may vary according to thermal insulation requirements and depending on the thickness of the concrete wall required for structural design purposes.
  4. Extension of the traditional geometry of the ISOTEX formwork block for fire protection of the insulation insert (protected coat).
  5. Ventilation channels: in order to allow ventilation through the external cavities made in the Isotex Ventilated Block, it is necessary to place air intake grilles, made of aluminium or plastic, on the bottom and top of the wall. The movable blades of the grilles are opened in the spring to allow air to flow from the bottom to the top, helping to cool the wall. The grilles are closed in the autumn to prevent the flow of ventilation: the air cushion improves the thermal insulation of the Isotex ventilated wall.
  6. External wall on which to apply plaster or coating.

Energy efficiency of the Isotex Air ventilated wall

The innovative shape of the formwork block with ventilated cavity further enhances the excellent energy performance of the Isotex building system. The Isotex Air formwork block is energy-efficient: the continuous, “protected” insulation insert provides thermal insulation and the ventilation significantly reduces the surface temperature in summer.

The calculation report prepared by ANIT was carried out in Verona, in July, with an average temperature (T) of approximately 23.9°C and assuming a sol-air temperature of the wall surface of 65°C (corresponding to an average exterior paint colour): the façade’s summer performance improves significantly.
