The absence of VOC (Volatile organic compounds) in an environment is an important indicator of well-being and living comfort. VOC are chemicals found in industrial products or materials, which tend to evaporate and pervade indoor environments. The presence of dispersed chemicals in indoor environments not only worsens air quality, but is also a real risk to the health of people and animals, causing allergies and in the most serious cases of diseases. For this reason, there is an increasing focus on the presence of VOC in construction materials.

Why is it important to choose a low VOC building system such as Isotex? Today we spend around 90% of our time indoors, breathing in up to 20 cubic metres of air per day, the quality of which can affect our living comfort and our health. Low VOC content in building materials is very important to safeguard indoor air quality, which is why the demand for building systems and products that are not harmful to human health has increased significantly. Isotex® wood cement blocks and floors have been tested by Eurofins and are in the very low VOC emission category, meeting the strictest European and international standards. The results were excellent as the Isotex wood cement sample was classified Indoor Air Comfort GOLD and the Isotex wood cement sample with Neopor® BMBcert insulation from BASF was classified Indoor Air Comfort (obtaining in addition LEED, BREEAM protocols etc. compliance)

What is the VOC Test and what are the Certification Levels?

The EUROFINS “Indoor Air Comfort” certification is a tool to demonstrate the compliance of the product with low VOC emission criteria established in Europe. The test involves placing the product under analysis in an empty chamber under conditions similar to indoor environments and sampling and analysing the air in the chamber several times over a period of 28 days. At the end of the analysis, the product is labelled.
