Safety and creativity: the story of Novi gym built by Isotex

Today, we’ll tell you the beautiful story of the gym in Novi (Modena) built with the Isotex building system, when safety and creativity dialogue and great successes are achieved. Isotex has always been to the forefront of seismic safety and the story we recall today is a source of great pride. In 2012, we built a gym in Novi, in the Province of Modena: we never imagined that, a few months later, it would become a safe haven for dozens of people who, unfortunately, were victims of the very strong 5.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Emilia that year. Sometime later, the external walls of the “Monia Franciosi” Gym became the canvas of the well-known street artist Luca Zamoc.

Our building system merges reinforced concrete, the most solid structure, with mineralised wood, a natural material from a thousand resources, creating stable and resistant structures.
This is precisely why we are very proud of the fact that, of the approximately 100,000 homes built since 1985 in Italy, many of them located in areas that have suffered major seismic events, from the earthquake in Umbria to the one in Friuli, up to the most recent in Abruzzo, Emilia and Central Italy, no building has suffered any damage. The gym in Novi (Modena) built by Isotex is a firm example: in the days following the earthquake, this structure, precisely by virtue of its extreme solidity, was converted into a place to welcome people who had suffered serious damage to their homes.

On 29 May 2012, it inflicted a deep wound in the small town in the province of Modena, but since then the inhabitants and the authorities have never stopped working to restore Novi to its former glory. The TOTART 2016 project is an example: artists of international stature were invited to work on some surfaces of public buildings to redevelop them, bringing a unique breath of creativity to each of the works produced.

The work, which is particularly close to our hearts, was created right on the outer wall of the Novi Gym created by Isotex: entitled “XXIX Maggio” it was painted by the famous Italian street artist and illustrator Luca Zamot. When research, spirit of innovation, safety and creativity meet, everything is possible! We at ISOTEX are really happy with this project and to be part of the history of Novi and its inhabitants.
