Anti-seismic

Proven and tested seismic safety.
Anti-seismic characteristics of wood cement blocks and panels

Isotex wood cement bearing blocks and slabs in Isotex allow the construction of extremely safe anti-seismic structures. The formwork blocks are dry-laid, filled with concrete, in which a horizontal and vertical reinforcement is inserted that connects the foundation to the edges of the floors, ensuring a solid load-bearing reinforced structure.

Thanks to its excellent structural characteristics, the Isotex building system is used in highly seismic areas of first and second category.

The Isotex building system is anti-seismic.
Lots of earthquakes, no damage

Italy is an area at high seismic risk due to its positioning between the African and Euro-Asian tectonic plates. Periodic earthquakes have caused, throughout history, with multiple damage and victims. Since Isotex began to build in Italy with its wood cement blocks and floors , several major earthquakes have occurred.

Following these seismic events, many of our customers have testified to the resistance and anti-seismic resilience of our building systems. Eco-sustainable and anti-seismic buildings and houses, built with the Isotex system, have withstood these seismic events without suffering any damage, not even a crack.

Testimonials from our customers

Of more than 80,000 homes built with Isotex in Italy since 1985, many of these have had to withstand seismic events of considerable intensity (Friuli 1998, Umbria 1997, Abruzzo 2009, Emilia 2012 and Central Italy in 2016). These buildings have not had any damage, not even a crack.

References to Italian anti-seismic regulations

On August 8, 2011, the Higher Council of Public Works published the reference guidelines for designers, technicians in the sector and competent Control Bodies.

Pursuant to chapter 12 of the Technical Standards, the Guidelines provide theoretical and experimental references and design and construction indications for the design and calculation of buildings made with load-bearing panel building systems based on the use of formwork blocks and weakly reinforced concrete cast on site.

The building system must be characterised from a structural point of view through an adequate number of experimental tests, according to the Technical Standards in force, to demonstrate an effective behaviour of the load-bearing elements with respect to vertical and horizontal actions, including cyclical.

Technical documentation required by the LLGG

The following documentation must be prepared and made available by the Manufacturer:

Isotex technical documentation at your disposal.
Anti-seismic design and construction

01

Operative assembly manual

This catalogue explains the correct method of laying blocks and floors in wood cement, with the help of construction details and tips on how to properly unload and lay Isotex products.

Isotex wall verification software

Isotex provides structure designers with free software for the verification of Isotex walls. Isotex engineers are at your disposal for any clarification.

03

Interpretive report and
experimental testing

With the new NTC2018, a technical testing campaign was carried out on the Isotex walls, at the Eucentre experimental testing laboratory in Pavia, obtaining excellent results in terms of anti-seismic resistance. Within the Report you will also find Guidelines, beam-wall tests, behaviour factor q0=3 and Isotex exoskeleton study.

Structural calculation examples

Isotex provides examples of calculation representative of the structural type with reference for modelling and verification for the correct installation of floors and load-bearing walls with Isotex wood cement formwork blocks.

05

Isotex block data sheets

Isotex provides technical sheets for each type of product where system characteristics, mechanical characteristics and for the modelling/verification of structural elements are included.

Construction Details

The construction details provided are described in specific illustrative sheets that must contain indications relating to different technical aspects of the product, such as the positioning of the reinforcements.
